ga Golf & Polo Club and Jim
Mueller of Orchard Creek Golf
Club won the two-day event in
2005 and again in 2006. They
finished second last year to
Bryan Bigley and Robby
Bigley.
A year ago the Bigleys beat
a top field of golfers on the
6,316-yard layout. They set a
tournament record of 19-under-
par 123.

Bryan Bigley is now in Flori¬
da competing in professional
tournaments and Robby Bigley
returns this year with a new
partner.
This is the opening tourna¬
ment for area amateurs. It’s
just the start of a busy summer
with the Challenge Cup coming
this Wednesday and the Tri-
County Golf Association match
play championship slated for
May 9-11.
Two-time Tri-County champi¬
on Jimmy Welch (Winding
Brook Country Club) and Dave
Pallas (Town of
Colonie Golf
Course) are in Saturday’s tour¬
nament. They finished third a
year ago.
Other top teams for Saturday
and Sunday include Country
Club of Troy’s Matt Clarke and
Tim Flanigan; and David
Arakelian and Chris David; Van
Schaick Island Country Club’s
Ken Bessette and Town of
Colonie’s Chris Braman; and
Wolferts Roost Country Club’s
John Vaccaro and Hiland Golf
Club’s Chuck Connolly.
 AuBuchon and Mueller will
get a lot of attention this week¬
end.
A former Kansas profession¬
al, AuBuchon is the defending
Saratoga County amateur
champion. He also won the
2004 Troy Invitational. Mueller
is a five-time
Schenectady
County champion.
Matt Clarke won the 2005
New York State Golf Associa¬
tion’s Mid-Am championship
and he captured three Rensse¬
laer County titles and three
Troy Invitationals.
Vaccaro is the hottest golfer
after claiming last September’s
New York State Mid-Am title
and senior championships in
Massachusetts and Vermont.
Jim Welch is the two-time
defending Tri-County Golf
Association champion and a
former Troy Invitational winner.
Three-time Tri-County
champ Dan Russo returns to
this event. The team of Andy
Bennett and Mike Gifford will
be strong. Bennett is a former
Edison Invitational winner and
Gifford is The Edison Club
president as well as men’s
champ.
