Fallsview Golf Course at Honors Haven Resort is a hidden gem
Robert Trent Jones, Sr. has surely earned a place in golf’s pantheon. Over a period spanning seven decades, he has designed (or re-designed) some 500 golf courses in over 40 states and 35 countries. It is not only the quantity of his work that impresses, however; it is also the number of enduring golf courses he has created, and the fact that he never tires of turning them out.
Open for play in 1963 and designed by the master of strategic American golf course design, Robert Trent Jones, Sr., the Fallsview Golf Course offers championship golf and spectacular views of the Shawangunk Mountains. Open to the public, our 3,432 yard, par 35 championship facility stands alone as one of the premier nine hole courses in the Northeast.
Robert Trent Jones’s courses are forever identified by extremely long, “runway” tees. The Fallsview teeing grounds average a hefty 60 yards in length with number six a football field long 100 yards. Jones’s strategic use of fairway bunkers, reachable for the long hitter, poses another obstacle for the skilled golfer. With deep greenside bunkers and large undulating elevated greens sloping back to front, the Fallsview Golf Course offers an unforgettable experience. In the tradition of Oakland Hills, Hazeltine National, Bellerive, et al., the Fallsview Golf Course represents Robert Trent Jones Sr. at the height of his architectural dominance. This may represent some of his finest work. The “Met Golfer” magazine has recognized the Fallsview golf course as one of the Metropolitan area’s Hidden Gems. “Not a weak hole to be found – and some consider holes seven through nine the toughest three finishers in the Met Area.”
This Robert Trent Jones, Sr. design is quite possibly the best overall nine holes in the Lower Hudson Valley. It demands everything – ball striking, accuracy, thinking and touch. There are grueling, tight par fours; a par five that cannot be reached in two and gets narrower as the green is approached. Just enough rough to be fair, but obstructive, and fast greens that slope back to front, making ball control imperative. Don’t be surprised if you want to spend all day on the Fallsview, just going around and around... it’s that good. A full service pro shop with accommodating staff is available for all of your golfing needs.
Attend a Golf Clinic presented by our PGA Professional, Geoff Walsh. A golf clinic is a demonstration exhibiting the technique of the golf swing and showing how the fundamentals of the swing are applied to that technique. It gives the observer an insight into what the PGA Professional works on when he/she practices and how that is applied to the golf course. A group or private lesson is interactive with the PGA Professional teaching the student (s) the primary fundamentals and techniques of the golf swing in a controlled environment – the lesson tee.
Fallsview Golf Course is located on Route 209, less than a mile south of the village of Ellenville.
