Coons” Invitational July 23, 24 & 25 For a full listing of tournaments, go to www.catskillgolfclub.com The Catskill Golf Club, located on Brooks Lane in Catskill, New York, is a semi-private facility, incorporated in the State of New York, wholly owned by stockholders and managed by a nine member Board of Directors. The original golf course layout, designed by James R. Thompson was opened for play in 1927. This nine-hole design with alternating tees for front and back nines remained as such until nine new holes, designed by William Oettinger, were added in the late 1990's. A formal opening of the full 18 holes occurred in 2000. The Club now features four sets of tees with total yardages ranging from 4842 to 6482 to accommodate all levels of play. Each year the Club presents a Pro-Am event where golf professionals are teamed with local amateurs in an exciting better ball format. The Catskill Invitational, a three-day event entering its 52nd year in 2010, is another of the significant events on a busy seasonal calendar. The Club features the Fairways Restaurant for post-golf dining, a casual lunch, dinner or formal occasion. There is a fully stocked Pro Shop and resident PGA Golf Professional to assist you with your golfing needs. There are several categories of Club Memberships available including: golf, pool and tennis, and social. 1) Beware of the pond on right which you cannot see from tee. Creek comes into play on second shot, just past the 100 yd. marker. Aim for left side of fairway for more room on second shot. Short of pine is best on approach shot. 2) Nice tree lined par 3 with bunker guarding the left side of green. 3) Driver may get you in trouble as fairway narrows on left side of fairway, just past the 150 yd. marker. Blind approach shot. Aim for flag in distance (center of green). 4) Mid to long iron is safe play on this short dogleg right. Aim for left side of fairway. Trees on right will block approach shot if you hit tee shot sort and right. O.B. to right of hole, and behind green. 5) O.B. to right on tee shot. Fairway slopes downward about 130 yds. from green. Beware of getting caught on down slope. Creek comes into play on both sides of the green and behind it. 6) Uphill par 3. Use 1/2 more club, but beware, long is not good because this green slopes severely from back to front. 7) Beautiful view from this elevated tee. Longer hitters should keep driver in the bag. Creek is not visible from tee, but can be reached if tee shot is hit further than 220 yards. The creek is closer if you hit the ball left off the tee. Second shot is to an elevated green that you cannot see and is at least 1/2 club more. 8) O.B. to right of entire hole and behind green. Straight- forward par 5, fairly wide fairway. Good birdie hole. 9) Can get it close to green with driver, but a pulled tee shot on a hole that slopes right to left could mean O.B. Safe lay is a tee shot to 100 yds. Green is guarded by bunkers on right and left with a false front. 10) This hole gives you a good chance to start the back nine with a birdie. Approach shot is hard to hold if ball lands past middle of green. 11) Narrow par 5 with O.B. on right and trees on left. Birdie hole if you keep it straight. 12) Very demanding tee shot on this severe dogleg left, with O.B. down the entire right side of the hole. Hit tee shot to the 150 yd. marker, just past the corner of the dogleg for a good start. Right of green slops towards O.B. 13) Small green and bunkers guarding the right and left side of green make this short par 3 tougher than it looks. Short is better than long. 14) Challenging dogleg right with hazard down right side of hole. Safe tee shot is left side of fairway to about 130 yds. from green. Be careful with approach shot that faces hazards to the right and behind the green. 15) Short hole but dangerous. Severe slope up to the green starts about 100 yds. from the green, so hit tee shot to about 110 yds. for best lie. Blind shot to green makes this approach tough, especially if you are on a severe upslope. 16) Beautiful tree lined par 5, with creek down the left side of the hole. Creek cuts across fairway at about 90 yds. from green. Be careful not to layup too close to the creek. 17) Uphill par 3 guarded by a bunker in front. Use one more club and make sure that you know where the flag is on this two tiered green. 18) Very good finishing hole. Rolling fairway with a deep valley (150 yds. from green), that collects many tee shots. Blind shot to green from here makes it a tough second shot. Plays about 1/2 more club. O.B. over the green.
